Body Piercing

In the past body piercing was cultural identifier and often was an important part of rituals. Ear, tongue, and lips piercing were a big part of many less main stream cultures. In more modern times most piercing are looked at as a sign of individuality rather then a cultural identifier. Many people will go through the pain of having a needle shoved through a body part in order to achieve the individual look they strive for. In our society we have normalized this form of body modification, from a young age its common for people to have piercings. Ear piercing is a prim example of that. As teenagers is common for girls to get their noses and bellybuttons pierced, that is just another example of how body piercing has become increasingly popular in our culture.
