Statues are beautiful form of art that has been around for thousands of years. There is a vast variety of statues around the world, from the ancient Moai statues located in Easter Island, to the famous Statue of Liberty in New York.
Another well known statue would the the huge statue of Jesus Christ located in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro, which has served as a symbol to this large and beautiful city. Called Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer), this huge statue, which is approx. 130ft tall, overlooks the city and is the largest art deco in the world. The open arms represents peace.
There has also been a few statues around the world similar to Christ the Redeemer, located in various
parts of the world. One example is Christ the Abyss, which is a bronze and smaller version, located in the Mediterranean Sea, on the Italian Riviera. It was placed in the Sea in 1954 and also is meant to represent peace. This statue of Jesus is my favourite, because of its unique location.
I think statues are a very important form of art. They provide insight on what a culture was like at the time of a statues creation, how advanced the civilizations were, and what was important to them embodied in stone. Statues usually show cultural icons, and in this case it shows a religious icon. Side note: That underwater statue is awesome!!
