After a few
years of stalling, The latest installment of the Lord of the Rings phenomena is
almost upon us. With the release date for the highly publicized prequel ‘The
Hobbit’ set to arrive on Dec.14, movie enthusiasts are eagerly waiting. Tickets
have been pre-ordered and they are beginning to sell out. And fast.
What sets
this academy award-winning trilogy apart from regular films is the emphasis it
places on such things as costume designs, visuals, character development and
its incredible story line. Largely regarded as one of the greatest trilogies of all-time, The Hobbit has large shoes to fill, to say the least. The
franchise started back in 2001, and it is interesting because although these
movies came out in the earlier part of the century when visual technology had
not yet reached the level it’s at today, they still managed to be ahead of the times; which
is part of what makes it so great. It will be interesting to see the changes
visual technology has on the production of the film almost ten years later. We
almost will inevitably be blown away. The key thing to watch will be whether or
not they will be able to deliver their usual solid story line in the process.
Directors
and producers have struggled in that aspect. Their intentions are usually set
in stone from the onset as to whether they want to focus on captivating the
audience with incredible cinematography and visual art, or focus on the content
of their story, character dialogues, etc. The most successful films in today’s
industry are those who are able of incorporating both aspects equally without
comprising either in the process.
Regardless, fans from all over will be eagerly waiting to see this beloved movie phenomena. But what do you think? Do you think The Hobbit will live up to the greatness of its predecessors?
