Electric Guitar vs. Acoustic Guitar
Electric and acoustic guitars are similar, as they both have 6 strings, a head stock, a neck with frets, and a body. That is where the similarities end.

Acoustic Guitar
Acoustic Guitars have a hollow body, as illustrated by the picture above. The hollow body causes the vibrations from the strings to echo loudly, resulting in a resonating sound with no electronics required. The strings are generally thicker on acoustic guitars, which favors the playing of chords rather than intricate guitar riffs.

Electric Guitar
Electric guitars have a solid body, and unlike the acoustic guitar they can't produce a loud sound on their own. To produce a resonating sound the electric guitar must be plugged into an amplifier. The strings are generally thinner on electric guitars, which allows for versatile playing of all styles. Amplifiers have varying sound settings, which allow the guitar to sound like any setting applied on the amplifier. This places more emphasis on the amplifier than the guitar itself (in terms of sound).
