The Rise and Fall of Oasis

Oasis will go down as one of the best British bands of all time. Among their accomplishments they have had: multiple #1 singles and albums, back to back sell out concerts of 250000 people, and massive international success. Oasis started in 1991 with original members: Liam Gallagher, Paul Arthurs, Paul McGuigan, and Tony McCarroll. They were soon joined by Liam's brother Noel Gallagher who would be the genius behind Oasis, writing almost all of their songs. They released their first album "Definitely Maybe" in 1994 which would become the fastest selling album in British history. The angelic voice of Liam and songwriting genius of Noel led them to massive success, as "Definitely Maybe" hit number 1. This was followed by the huge album "(What's the Story) Morning Glory" which contained their two biggest hits "Wonderwall" and "Champagne Supernova." Oasis had their peak in popularity from 1994-1998, releasing three #1 albums and selling out two back to back concerts at Knebworth Park in 1996 (each concert had an attendance of 250000 people). All of their monster success could not last forever. Trouble with the press, a couple average albums, and the fading vocal chords of Liam were among many reasons for the decline. From 1999-2009 the band continued on with decreased popularity, they released a few good albums but none could capture the magic of "Definitely Maybe" and "(Whats the Story) Morning Glory)." Troubles in the band between brothers Liam and Noel finally came to a boil in 2009, when Noel left the band and subsequently Oasis broke up. Liam and Noel both  went on to form their own new bands, but neither brother could capture what made Oasis great in the 90's.
