Wealth vs Deviance-The Dilemma in Hiphop

Upon achieving a certain level of popularity as a hip hop artist,  there is often a crucial decision many newcomers must face. That is making music to gain as much money and riches as you possibly can, or having an average amount of wealth while displaying a higher level of intelligence through your music. It is a dilemma that has come up in the last 10 years or so of hip hop. The achievement of reaching that level of fame can definitely alter and question one's motives as to why they are making hip hop in the first place. Money definitely does things to people; In this case it serves as a temptation for the artist and their craft. It is the easy route and the one that ensures financial security in one's life. For that I don't blame those who choose that route. For me personally, I respect those that take the other route and can deliver a solid message with their lyrical content, underlying messages, and wittyness in their wordage. In the end I believe that it is the amount of love an artist has for his/her craft that will determine what decision a rapper will make concerning their status in the game of hip hop.
